Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- It’s one of the top Your Stories complaints we take: the long standing eyesore at Carrier Circle that used to be a Howard Johnson’s hotel. It appears there may finally be some movement toward redeveloping the site with two new hotels.
It’s possible we could see the old building coming down before the end of the year. We’ve heard the predictions and promises before, but there’s been a good deal of work behind the scenes, including an important piece of the new entrance way that developers have been waiting for.
“They’re still on board; they want to build here in the town of DeWitt. You don’t buy a piece of land like this in a prime location at Carrier Circle and just let it sit here so, yes, they’re still interested in building,” DeWitt Planning Director James Conlon told NewsChannel 9.
Now, with the easement from McDonald’s out of the way there’s access to the property from the back. Next up, the town is working with Carrier to deed over their old parking lots, so the town can make a road to the hotels.
Conlon says he expects the lots to be handed over to the town by the end of October, clearing the way to tear down the building by November or December of this year.
“If we have an average winter, they’ll probably break ground by late March, April and for two hotels, you’re probably looking at least four or five months,” Conlon said.
So by this time next year, we could be well on our way to seeing the eyesore turned into two brand new hotels.
