Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Question: Who is responsible for shoveling sidewalks in front of vacant buildings?

Answer: According to the City of Syracuse Code Enforcement office, the person who owns the vacant property is responsible for its snow removal.

The Syracuse Police Department tickets those who don’t follow through on ticketing owners who don’t clear snow on their properties.

In practice, however, it can be almost impossible to track down the owners.
