Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Question:
Viewers are concerned that their garbage and recyclables are being dumped into the same truck when being collected. Answer:
Looks can be deceiving according to Kristen Lawton at OCRRA.
She explained that many trucks used to collect what is left at the curb have a single opening along with a lever that directs the various types of trash into one of two compartments.
There is one for regular garbage and one for recyclables. She also said that residents don't need to separate metal, plastic and paper.
Lawton said that the private contractors in Onondaga County that process recyclables practice something called single-stream recycling. Have a question for the Your Stories team? We'll try to answer it: Call (315) 446-9900 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
