Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- One of our viewers wants to know why Syracuse’s Earth Day cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, and not on Earth Day itself, which falls on Monday, April 22.
The Mayor’s Office says the city ties its event into OCRRA’s countywide cleanup schedule.
OCRRA says it prefers to hold cleanups on either a Friday or a Saturday because those events generally garner a greater number of volunteers.
Local school break schedules are also taken into account. If the cleanup is planned when a majority of schools are off, participation tends to drop because schools are unlikely to take part and many families leave the area for vacation.Do you have a question for the Your Stories team?
