Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The roads weren’t beaten up too badly this year by winter weather, but some maintenance is still needed.

One of our viewers has noticed that many road markings look a little worse for the wear and wonders when the State Department of Transportation will repaint those lane stripes, arrows and characters.

The answer, according to the DOT is soon. Contracts are usually put out in the spring and work is performed during the warmer weather months on dry days. That’s to ensure the paint adheres to the pavement. As for the order of business, unless the state identifies a high-priority job, like the “Low Bridge Ahead” lettering along Onondaga Lake Parkway, it’s up to the contractor to decide where and when to paint. All the work should wrap up in October.
