Oswego County (WSYR-TV) -- Oswego County residents have watched NewsChannel 9’s earlier coverage of progress on Verizon FiOS agreements in Onondaga County and have been left wondering: What about us?

Does Verizon FiOS have plans to bring TV service to Oswego County? The company says there are no franchise agreements in place and there won’t be any time soon.

As we’ve previously reported, Verizon is tied up with meeting its obligations in communities where agreements are already signed. Until those build outs are nearly complete, the company does not plan to add any other villages, towns or cities to its FiOS TV roster.

With that said, Verizon has a marketing agreement with Direc-TV in its non-FiOS areas, like Oswego County. This allows the company to compete with other cable providers and offer residents an alternative.

What does that mean? Well, Verizon provides the telephone and Internet service through traditional copper network and TV service is provided by Direc-TV.
