Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- One of our viewers is bothered by how long it’s taking the State Department of Transportation to construct a permanent fix for the hole that developed on one of the eastbound lanes of 690 that was patched up back in late-March. This round of repairs was supposed to take only two weeks he says, but we’re several weeks into the project now.
An explanation from the DOT reveals that the repair was expected to take
at least two weeks. And it wasn’t just the hole that needed repair, but the surrounding area as well. Crews enlarged the hole to eight by 12 feet and patched the area with concrete. Then they found another area further east and had to fix that area as well. Another reason for the delay, we’re told, is that it takes a minimum of 14 days for a full-depth concrete patch to develop enough strength so lanes can be reopened to traffic. So, you may not see crews out actively working on the repairs, but that doesn’t mean the lane closures aren’t still needed.
