Liverpool (WSYR-TV) - A NewsChannel 9 viewer in Liverpool – Lori – says she has always appreciated the varieties of birds at her backyard feeders. She especially loves smaller birds, like goldfinches.

But in the last two weeks, Lori says all but a few robins have disappeared and she wants to know why.

According to SUNY ESF graduate student Lewis Grove, it’s not uncommon for birds to look elsewhere for food this time of year because feeders that hold mostly seed or suet contain fat calories. As birds raise their young, they need more protein rich foods so they seek out insects.
