Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Dan in Syracuse was driving west on the Thruway not too long ago and noticed trenches on the south side of I-90 adjacent to the wildlife refuge. What are they for, he asks?

Well, they’re part of an ongoing habitat and wetland restoration project at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. NewsChannel 9 reported last fall that crews are digging out 10 to 15 acre ponds to create a marsh that will be more inviting for wildlife. The muck has to be cleared out because the Thruway interferes with water flow through the refuge. Once the project is complete, you’ll likely have a better chance of seeing animals when you visit the refuge.
