Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A new company in Central New York called “
Mosquito Authority” offers to spray for mosquitoes around your home to kill and repel them. Lash Taylor wants to know if the spraying is harmful to the declining honey bee population.
An entomologist from SUNY ESF says “yes.” The insecticide, which is applied to tress and bushes, will kill any insects flying in the area during spraying. After it dries – in about 20 minutes – it’s not usually harmful to bugs that come into contact with the greenery that’s been sprayed. We’re told the company’s insecticide contains similar chemicals used by most county health department for aerial spraying, which also kills off other bugs caught in the mist.
