Some Preliminary July Numbers... (7-30-12)
The month of July is about to come to a close and I came across what I think will be some significant numbers when it comes to temperature.First, it looks like we are going to end up as the 3rd warmest July on record.| Year | Mean Temp. |
| 1955 | 76.7 F |
| 1921 | 76.6 F |
| 2012 | 76.2 F |
| 2011 | 75.8 F |
| 1933 | 75.0 F |
As far as I can tell looking back to 1902, this would make it the 3rd warmest month on record for any month.About a third of the days so far this month have reached 90 F or better and with one more 90 degree day possible tomorrow (Tuesday) we could end up in a tie for second when it comes to 90 degree days in one month| Year/Month | 90 Degree Days |
| July 1955 | 14 |
| July 1952 | 11 |
| August 1955 | 11 |
| August 2002 | 11 |
| July 2012 | 10 (so far) |
As I have mentioned before, the warmth this summer in general and this July in particular has been very consistent.. There is only going to be one day where the high temperature has not reached 80 F or better this month (it was ‘only’ 79 on July 20th). That is also the same number as last July. The only time when we’ve gone the whole month with a high of 80 or better is July 1955. How significant is having only one day below 80 degree day in July? The average over the last 30 years is almost 11 days! As recently 2009 we went through the entire month of July with 20 days below 80 degrees. We’ll sort through the July numbers some more over the next few days and we’ll let you know later in the week how this summer is stacking up compared to some other recent hot summers. Stay tuned.
