(WSYR-TV) As I sit here on this beautiful Thursday morning, the upcoming weekend weather is coming into clearer view. What was once a muddled mess of clouds and rain, has shown some improvement. Fall activities are kicking into high gear, so we definitely want to have some sun to go along with our weekends.
Today looks great, with a wealth of sun. Skies will be clear this evening, with a beautiful waxing moon (Full Harvest moon tomorrow night). Overnight, clouds will thicken. I was tipped off to the possibility of rain getting in here by Friday morning, just before going on the 11 pm news Wednesday night. I was suspicious our computer forecast models were contaminated by convection (thunderstorms) over the Midwest. Sometimes they can take the convection and overdo downstream rain. We call this convective feedback. Anyway, as I rub the sleep from my eyes this morning, everything I've looked at indicates that indeed some rain will greet us as we head out the door Friday morning.
It looks like that whatever rain is around Friday morning, will gradually slide to our east during the day Friday. Clouds may linger a bit more, and with a north wind, I really can't see us warming much past 60 degrees for the final day of the work/school week. It will be a cool/chilly night for Friday Night Fever (football games) and a bit damp, given the rain we wake up to Friday. I don't expect any precipitation during the games though.
Saturday doesn't look too bad. On the weather map, the jet stream will be buckling to form a storm over the Great Lakes. This would place us in a south wind flow, meaning milder temperatures. It looks like a wedge of dry air over us will provide us with some sun. If you want to do some apple picking, yard work, or get out a look at the fall foliage, Saturday is your day.
I don't want to knock Sunday. The thing we'll have to watch for Sunday is that storm mentioned above over the Great Lakes, coming at us during the day. This will mean thickening clouds through the day and some rain coming in during the afternoon. Right now, it looks like a great day to watch football, or if you're like me, the Ryder Cup. Incidentally, the weather in Chicago looks great this weekend. Also, after some early weekend rain in Dover, Delaware, Sunday looks okay for the Sprint Cup race.
