Emily Norman, daughter of Philip and Donna Norman of Canastota, has been named Chittenango High School’s Valedictorian for the Class of 2013. Emily has earned a high school average of 98.16, which includes perfect scores of 100 on State Regents Exams in Physics, Algebra II/Trigonometry, Biology, and Foreign Language.
Emily is the recipient of the Colgate University Alumni Memorial Scholar Award, which is the highest honor any admitted student can receive. It is awarded on the basis of exceptional intellectual promise and academic performance, as well as extracurricular achievement and character.
Throughout high school, Emily has complemented her education with involvement in numerous clubs and activities. She has completed terms as President of the French Honor Society, Vice-President of Tri-M Music Honor Society, and as Historian of National Honor Society. Additionally, she has performed as a primary chair cellist, as a cast member in school plays and musicals, and has been a senior staff writer for our award-winning school newspaper The Bear Facts. Along with her commitment to academics and school activities, Emily has been a dedicated volunteer teacher for elementary students and a tutor for French.
Already an award-winning author, Emily plans on attending Hamilton College this fall to pursue a degree in Creative Writing.
