Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone announced at his Monday morning press conference that star wide receiver Mike Williams has left the team for unknown reasons.
Williams had been suspended for the game against Akron for violating team rules; he was sidelined all of last season after being accused of cheating on a test.
In the press conference, Marrone said Williams came to his office in the morning to say he was leaving the team immediately.
Marrone said he did not know if Williams had also left school and the university was unable to confirm that.
Coming into Saturday’s game at the Carrier Dome, Williams was ranked as one of the top receivers in the Big East.
