Upon their 65th birthday, americans become eligible for medicare, but you may qualify before then if you have special kidney problems or a long-term disability. The first part of medicare covers your hospital bills. The second part, which is optional, provides payment for all physician and surgeon fees and requires a monthly premium. Because medicare was designed to alleviate only of the financial burden on health care for the elderly, medicare determines which fees and hospital expenses qualify for coverage. You may decide to get additional coverage to supplement your medicare. You can apply for medicare by contacting your local social security office. Consult an insurance agent in your area for information about medigap supplemental policies.
