2 workers suffer serious injuries after falling down elevator shaft at Ithaca construction site

Ithaca (WSYR-TV) – Two workers at an Ithaca construction site had to be rescued after falling four stories down an elevator shaft and suffering serious injuries.

Police and other emergency personnel responded to the Fairfield Inn on Saturday after a scaffolding structure fell through a floor two bricklayers were standing on over the elevator shaft.

The two workers were airlifted to regional medical centers.

One of the workers is listed in critical condition, while the other is listed in stable condition, according to Ithaca Police.

The workers’ identities have not been released.

Their families were notified of the accident.
