Utica (WSYR-TV) The 15K course along the roads of Utica was no match for the thousands of men and women who took part in this morning’s race.

Both the men’s and women’s course records were broken this morning by Lelise Desisia, a native of Ethiopia and Edna Kiplagat.

Desisia’s time was 42 minutes and 46 seconds, which beat the record by eight seconds.

“I am very happy with running this 15k. This first time and the time is best. I am very happy,” said Desisia.

Kiplagat finished the course about five minutes after Desisia with a time of 47 minutes and 56 seconds, a record women’s course time.

“I tried to run ahead of the ladies and as soon as I caught up with the men I tried to hold on for some minutes, but they were a bit stronger than me. So I tried to run at my own pace,” said Kiplagat.

More than 13-thousand people participated in the 2010 Boilermaker, making it the largest crowd in the race’s 33 year history.

Mohammed Trafeh was the first male USA contestant to cross the finish line, coming in 10th overall. Laurel Burdick was the first female USA contestant to finish with a time of 52 minutes and 35 seconds.
