Utica (WSYR-TV) – 24 people in Oneida County are facing charges after a welfare-fraud sweep.
The Oneida County District Attorney’s Office conducted the sweep – the fourth of its kind under the campaign dubbed “Operation Tax Burden” – with assistance from numerous police agencies at multiple levels.
The suspects are accused of defrauding the state’s welfare system out of more $126,000 in benefits.
The largest alleged theft was in the amount of $34,976. The authorities charged Anna Hadyk of Boonville with grand larceny in the third degree and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.
