Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A 3-year-old victim of a brutal assault has been released after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The child was admitted to the hospital more than two weeks ago after Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home on Thompson Road in Cicero.
The Sheriff's Office says the child was released last week and has been observed walking and talking.
His mother’s live-in boyfriend, 27-year-old John Bonitz of Cicero, was charged with assault in the second degree, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor
Investigators believe Bontiz punched and kicked the child, whom they discovered in and out of consciousness.
His mother, Amanda Bishop, also 27, is facing charges connected to the alleged beating of two other children, a 7-year-old and a 10-year-old.
The children are in the care of the Onondaga County Department of Social Services.
Both Bonitz and Bishop are being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center – Bonitz in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond and Bishop in lieu of $10,000 bail.
