3-year-old dies when watercraft hits wall

GORHAM, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 3-year-old boy has died after a personal watercraft he was riding on with his mother hit a concrete break wall on Canandaigua Lake.

The craft was being operated by 37-year-old Kerry Pierson on Wednesday afternoon when it slammed into the wall.

The Ontario County Sheriff's office says it sped up just before it hit the wall. Pierson, of the Rochester suburb of Fairport, and her toddler son Samuel were flown by helicopter to a hospital in Rochester where the boy later died.

Kerry Pierson was still hospitalized in guarded condition Thursday.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
