Lee (WSYR-TV) -- A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured in a crash at the intersection of State Route 26 and Stokes Westernville Road in the town of Lee Wednesday afternoon.
The young boy sustained serious head injuries and is currently undergoing surgery at Upstate University Hospital.
An investigation found that a 2009 Jeep Liberty – driven by 80-year-old James Christodolou, of Rome -- failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and struck a 2007 Nissan Altima driven by 38-year-old Josi Williams, of Ava.
Upon impact, State Police say Williams’ vehicle was forced into the northbound lanes on State Route 26, where it was then struck by a 2000 Lexus RX3, driven by 63-year-old Barbara Townsend, also of Rome.
The driver’s of all three vehicles were taken to area hospitals with what police are calling “non-life threatening” injuries.
The 9-year-old boy was in the front seat of Williams’ vehicle at the time of the accident.
