Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A day after a poison-tainted letter addressed to a Mississippi Senator was identified, ABC News reports that a letter intended for President Barack Obama has been found bearing the same substance.
Earlier, multiple agencies indicated that the Secret Service said the letter intended for the president contains a suspicious substance.ABC says
the substance has been confirmed as ricin in preliminary tests.
According to multiple news agencies, the letter intended for the president was intercepted at a screening facility.
On Tuesday, a letter laced with the same substance was intercepted on its way to Republican Senator Roger Wicker.
Ricin is a highly toxic substance derived from castor beans.
Just a small amount of the substance can kill an adult if inhaled or ingested. There is no known remedy to counteract the effects of the poison.
