Auburn postal worker pleads guilty to workers comp fraud charge

Syracucse (WSYR-TV) – A Syracuse man admitted on Monday that he committed workers’ compensation fraud while working as a letter carrier in Auburn.

Daniel Markel, 51, Syracuse, pleaded guilty to defrauding the US Postal Service and the US Department of Labor.

The US Attorney’s office said that Market defrauded both agencies out of $5,647.36. He admitted that he was in jail while collecting the benefits, which should have been suspended for the duration of his incarceration.

The crime carries a sentence of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 14, 2012.
