LIVERPOOL (WSYR-TV) - More than 400 people took part in the 5th
Annual Autism Speaks Walk on Sunday in Liverpool.
The event helped to raise money for families affected by autism while raising awareness of the disorder.
"It's really all about awareness. We want to be a strong community. We want people to be accepting of our children, of our families. We're trying to get the word out there that we’re in the community so if anybody can support us, we'd love the support,” said Maeve Mackenzie with Autism Speaks.
"It's showing people that no matter what we do, we're not all that different. But we are, in a special way,” said 12-year-old Wyatt Kyle.
The event also gave people a chance to lobby for insurance coverage for those affected by Autism.
According to organizers, one in 88 children will be affected by Autism.
