Clay (WSYR-TV) - The Town of Clay recently announced to its residents that bacteria had been found in its water supply during routine testing.
Town officials said that the bacterium, called Coliform, was found in two of 24 samples collected on Nov. 3. They stressed that the bacteria did not represent a health emergency to the majority of the population.
The results of the tests indicated that the water system had violated drinking water standard. An acceptable amount, according to the town, is one sample or less per month.
They noted that boiling water or other corrective measures are not necessary, but residents who have particular health concerns should consult their doctors. In addition, people with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly people could also be at increased risk.
Officials also noted that e. coli was not found in the water supply.
