Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse University men’s basketball assistant coach Mike Hopkins recently interviewed for the head coach position at the University of Southern California.

Head coach Jim Boeheim confirmed in a Tuesday conversation with NewsChannel 9 Sports Director Steve Infanti that Hopkins had interviewed for the Trojans' job.

The Los Angeles Times website initially reported that the school had talked to coach Hopkins.

For several years, Hopkins has been considered the heir apparent for the SU head coach position when Boeheim retires.

A California native and former Orange player, Hopkins is in his 15th year on the SU staff.

He has been linked to multiple coaching vacancies in recent years, including St. Bonaventure and Charlotte.
