Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A local restaurant now holds the title of having the best burger in the State of New York. The New York Beef Council has crowned a downtown pub with the top honor.
The burger that earned Ale 'n Angus Pub
the top honor is called the “Power Play” and it beat out burgers from more than a hundred bars and restaurants from across the state.
Ale 'n Angus Pub got hundreds of votes from people around the state and now they have to change their sign from “Best Burger in Town” to “Best Burger in the State.”
“We have crowned you the victor of the 2012 best New York Burger. Thank you,” said Jean O’Toole during a ceremony Tuesday.
The pub in downtown Syracuse now has bragging rights all over New York. They not only have the best burger in town, but they have the best burger in the state.
“It’s fantastic. Thank you very much to Jean O’Toole and the entire staff at the New York Beef Industry Council. They’ve been very, very supportive of us,” said Ale ‘n Angus owner, Randy Beach.
Beach and the crew at the pub spent months creating the award-winning Power Play burger. It’s made with certified Angus beef, topped with shaved prime rib, American cheese and a Kaiser roll. The culinary creation beat out more than 100 restaurants, scoring the most votes around the state.
“It stood out in all areas. They scored high eights and nines in value, their service they said was amazing and of course the flavor profile,” O’Toole said.
It not only tantalized the taste buds of judges at 50BurgersOrBust.com, Central New Yorkers say it could even win the best burger in the nation.
Ale ‘n Angus fan Mike Folsom says, “It’s got all the ingredients you can ask for: juicy cheese, juicy beef, a great bun – it’s perfect.”
“There’s a lot of good ones out there. It was an awful tough competition. I’ve had some fantastic burgers, but ours is very good,” Beach said.
The pub has now won a silver platter and a live radio spot during lunchtime.
