Canadaigua (WROC-TV) – A Canandaigua woman accused of faking cancer and scamming the community out of thousands of dollars has pleaded guilty.

Melissa Jones pleaded guilty to two counts of grand larceny and criminal possession.

Prosecutors say Jones scammed $30,000 from nearly 200 people who tried to help her. She claimed to have stage four breast cancer. Prosecutors claim Jones had letters from doctors stating she was cancer-free, but she manipulated them to show she was sick.

Jones faces up to five years in prison. She will be sentenced in March.
