Cayuga County man charged after bank robbery

Weedsport (WSYR-TV) – Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a Weedsport man who they say robbed a bank on North Seneca Street on Tuesday morning.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Burr, 64, of 8939 Oakland St., Weedsport, entered a First Niagara Bank location and demanded cash, saying that he had a gun, although no weapon was shown.

Burr then ran off with money and a bank employee called 911.

While on his way to the scene, a Weedsport Police Officer spotted a man who fit Burr’s description and took him into custody.

Police determined than that he did not have a gun.

Burr was charged with robbery in the third degree, a felony.

He was arraigned in Village of Weedsport Court and taken to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
