Brewerton (WSYR-TV) -- Eight fire departments responded to the scene of a house fire at 9516 Mud Mill Road in the town of Clay Thursday afternoon.

The house dates back to 1894, Fire Chief Tim Dickerson told NewsChannel 9. He says the fire appears to have started as the result of a heater in a crawl space used to keep pipes from freezing.

Chief Dickerson said it took additional manpower to cut through years of floors built on top of one another to get to the fire.

After getting the fire out and releasing the mutual aid fire companies, Chief Dickerson says they had to call everyone back because the fire had rekindled and began to spread through walls to other parts of the home.

The initial call came in at 3:16. The scene was not cleared until 8:30 p.m.

No one was injured.
