It’s official, the first measurable snow of the season has fallen in central New York. We’re seeing some big changes from where the weather was at last week- remember Thanksgiving Day when we had sunshine and 60° weather? You can say goodbye to that for a while! The chillier temperatures will be with us for at least the next week.
Winds out of the west/northwest have been carrying the cold air across the relatively “warm” Lake Ontario (temps still in the upper 40s) and dropping out lake enhanced snow. Compared to yesterday, today’s snow band should be more organized. This means that steady snow is more likely in one area, so higher accumulations are possible. For the early part of the day, snow will be centered southeast of Lake Ontario, but as we head into the afternoon, that band will lift northward and focus over the Tug Hill. For those in the higher elevations, and additional 2-4” can be expected by this evening. Elsewhere, 1-2” is possible.
Snow will still be east of Lake Ontario come Monday. Lake effect snow warnings are in effect for Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego counties through Monday evening, meaning that snow may reduce visibility down to a quarter of a mile at times.
