We continue to watch an area of low pressure that’s been impacting our weather since early in the week. The system, now off the New England coast, is pulling in colder northwest air across central New York and dropping our temperatures around 10 degrees below what’s normal for early March. While the low is far enough away that it’s not causing any major snow issues, it’s providing enough moisture for us to continue seeing light showers through the weekend and minor accumulations.
Sunday will mainly feature chilly temperatures and light snow showers, thanks to the aforementioned low pressure. Northwest winds will cause lake enhancement of snow southeast of Lake Ontario, but only a trace to a couple of inches is expected for most. A bit of a breeze (10-20mph) may cause some blowing and drifting, along with wind chills feeling like the upper teens to 20º.
The coastal storm will loosen its grip early next week but we are going to keep some snow in the forecast Monday and perhaps even Tuesday as the winds aloft stay northwesterly. After Tuesday, there are signs of another East Coast storm for the middle of next week. This time, it looks like it would form off the Mid Atlantic or North Carolina coast. A track like this is likely too far south to give us a major impact here in central New York.
High pressure will build in for the end of the week, helping to usher in a more March-like feel. Highs on Friday and Saturday will be close to 40 with some sunshine possible.
