A cold front is currently moving through central New York this afternoon. Flurries along that front will quickly move out of the region. There is some drier air and clearing just north of the border in southern Canada that will try to move in toward this evening. That clearing should allow temperature to drop into the mid teens by morning which may seem cold but is actually near normal for this time of year.
The weather for the rest of the middle of the week looks rather quiet. There are still no major systems to contend with so we expect dry weather both Wednesday and Thursday. However, we’ll need to keep a sharp weather eye on the system passing to our south for tomorrow. Computer models continue to show a system zipping east from the Plain States and off the East Coast with a shield of light snow coming close to the New York-Pennsylvania border. In spite of the recent trend, it still looks to remain dry tomorrow here in central New York…albeit with some extra clouds.
It’s likely we will need to wait until Friday for our next weather system to well and truly impact the region. That next system will be another cold front that will move through the region later on Friday. There will be some snow showers with the front but more importantly a rather chilly air mass follows the cold front for the weekend, however, exactly when the colder air arrives in unclear. One reliable computer models suggests that low pressure will develop along the front as it moves through the region. Were this to occur, then some widespread light snow would occur, additionally, it would delay the arrival of the coldest air until Sunday. Other computer models do not indicate this scenario. Regardless of what happens this weekend, all computer models are on board in showing a shot of very cold air moving over the region Monday.
