Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Onondaga County and Rural Metro honored three zoo workers who helped a mother give birth to a baby girl on Dec. 7.

A 911 operator talked a worker through the childbirth process during the incident near a duck pond at Rosamond Gifford Zoo.

The little girl was the first human born at the zoo.

The Meh family named the child “December Paw.”

The Friends of the Zoo organization gave the family a permanent honorary membership.
