Chittenango (WSYR-TV) -- A 22-year-old Chittenango man escaped serious injury after flipping his car twice on Kinderhook Road in Madison County Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say Garrick Darrow was traveling east on Kinderhook Road in his 2000 Volkswagon Jetta when he lost control, rounded a curve, crossed the center line, left the roadway and impacted a roadside drainage ditch. His car then flipped twice and traveled 30 feet before coming to rest on its roof.

The impact was so fierce that the vehicles engine detached and was found about 15 feet away from the car.

It took rescue crews more than an hour to free Darrow from the wreckage.

Darrow was wearing his seatbelt and suffered what appeared to be minor injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.

Kinderhook Road between Bolivar Road in Chittenango was closed for about two hours as crews worked the scene.

Darrow was ticketed for failure to keep right and improper speed.
