Emerald ash borer confirmed in Onondaga County
DeWitt (WSYR-TV) – The Emerald ash borer’s presence has been confirmed in Onondaga County.
The US Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed that the beetle was found in a prism trap on Monday, July 29 in the town of DeWitt.
The beetle destroys all species of ash trees, which comprise 13 percent of the trees in Onondaga County.
Local environmental agencies have spent more than a year preparing for the Emerald ash borer’s arrival.
