Scriba (WSYR-TV) – An emergency notification siren near the nuclear power plants in Scriba inadvertently sounded Friday evening.

The Oswego County Emergency Management Office says it sounded around 5:40 p.m. due to a malfunction.

The office says there is no emergency at the three nuclear power plants in Oswego County.

The siren is near intersection of Middle Road and Route 104 in Scriba.  The office says all other sirens in the system are functioning properly.

In the event of an emergency at one of the plants that would require action by the public, the sirens would be sounded for three minutes to alert residents of the area to turn their AM/FM radios or televisions to local Emergency Alert System (EAS) stations for further information and instructions.

NewsChannel 9 WSYR airs Emergency Alert System notification when they are issued.
