Ex-NY comptroller out of prison after 20 months

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A former New York state comptroller has been released from prison after serving 20 months for his leading role in an influence-peddling scandal at the state's massive pension fund.

State corrections officials say Alan Hevesi left prison on Wednesday morning. He was granted parole in November.

As comptroller, Hevesi was sole trustee of the fund now valued at nearly $150 billion. The 72-year-old was entangled in an investigation of so-called "pay-to-play" practices at the fund.

Hevesi was sentenced to from one to four years in prison after pleading guilty in 2010 to official misconduct.
