Excellus announces 35 new generic drugs

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Prescription drugs are about to cost less for more than half-a-million Upstate New Yorkers.

Insurer Excellus Blue-Cross/Blue-Shield announced Tuesday the generic forms of 35 brand name drugs will soon become available.

Drugs included include:
  • Plavix, for heart patients
  • Singulair, for asthma sufferers
  • Diovan, for patients with high blood pressure
  • And Lexapro and Cymbalta, for patients who suffer from depression
Upstate New York is expected to save more than $714-million per year by going generic.
