Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - FEMA has approved federal flood assistance for Herkimer, Madison, Cortland and Oneida Counties according to Senator Charles Schumer's office.
FEMA approved federal flood assistance in the public assistance category, which means local governments can use the money for infrastructure repairs.
Public Assistance is for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.
Federal individual assistance has not been decided on, which would give funds directly to people and families affected.
Preliminary damage assessments by FEMA presented to President Obama showed that damages to public infrastructure had exceeded $32.7 million, well above the State’s $26.7 million per capita threshold.
Aid has been approved for the following Upstate New York Counties:
Additional counties may be added depending on further damage assessments.
