Fair Haven (WSYR-TV) – Cayuga County Sheriff’s Investigators have charged a Fair Haven man who they shot at two men on ATVs, striking one of them.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Richard Greene of Liverpool and Larry Thomas of Central Square were riding their ATVs in the village of Fair Haven toward County Trail when they were stopped by 59-year-old Orest Logusz, who was upset about the noise.
The confrontation escalated with both parties exchanging verbally abusive language. At that point, 75-year-old Edward Moriarty, who shares a residence at 14389 S. Lake St., with Logusz, emerged from the house with a .44 magnum semi-automatic rifle and fired at Thomas.
The bullet struck Thomas's helmet and Sheriff’s Investigators say either the bullet or shrapnel struck the rider’s leg, causing a minor injury. Thomas did not require transportation to the hospital after emergency personnel treated him at the scene.
Moriarty was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and criminal mischief. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Town of Sterling Court on June 20 at 7 p.m.
