Liverpool (WSYR-TV) – The family of a Liverpool Central Schools librarian who was killed in a brutal attack last week issued a statement thanking the community for its support, but asking that its privacy be respected.
47-year-old Lori Bresnahan and a 10-year-old girl were leaving a gymnastics center at Great Northern Mall last Thursday when they were kidnapped and taken to Verplank Road.
Bresnahan was stabbed to death during the incident. The 10-year-old child was picked up by a passerby. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
A 29-year-old Cicero man - David Renz - is in custody on charges including murder, rape, and kidnapping.
The woman’s family has been silent since the incident. On Friday, they sent a statement through the school district.
"We are overwhelmed with the community's support and desire to help out at this difficult time. However, protecting our privacy is critical and we ask that no fundraisers or public attention be brought to our family. We recognize that these offers are well-meaning and we appreciate the sentiment but ask that you respect our need for privacy above all else at this time. Thank you."
The family confirmed that a memorial fund in Bresnahan’s honor had been established. Proceeds sent to the fund will be saved in a trust.
