NORTH SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - A new campaign in Central New York is gearing up to help feed the hungry this holiday season.
Food for Families runs from December 9th – 16th at participating Tops Friendly Markets.
“Little Brown Bags of Hope,” filled with donated food, will be sold at Tops and then donated to the Food Bank of Central New York, which is trying to keep up with growing demand since the recession hit in 2008.
"The phenomenon we're seeing now is more and more of the working poor is coming to us. They've been playing by the rules, doing everything they're supposed to be doing but at the end of the month with the high cost of heat and utilities they're forced to come in and get some food assistance,” said Executive Director Tom Slater.
The “Little Brown Bags of Hope” can be purchased for $5, $10 or $20.
NewsChannel 9 is a proud sponsor of Food for Families.
The campaign culminates with a one-day food drive on December, 16th at Tops Markets throughout Central New York.
