Former Ithaca student wins racial harassment suit
Ithaca (WSYR-TV) - A harassment case involving the Ithaca City School District has been settled.
The case involved a former Ithaca student – Epiphany Kearney – who claimed that in the 2005-06 school year, she suffered racially discrimination and harassment from other students.
Kearney’s mother filed a lawsuit saying the district didn’t protect her daughter, who was in seventh grade.
After a long court battle the suit was settled.
Kearney was awarded $275,000. $75,000 will come from the school district. The remainder will be paid by the district’s insurance carrier.
