Volney (WSYR-TV) -- Four former members of the Volney Fire Department have been accused of “inappropriate spending” while there were active members of the department.

According to State Police, the subjects resigned from the department earlier this year after an internal investigation revealed they used the department’s money for their own personal use.

The investigation was turned over to State Police, which resulted in the following arrests:

37-year-old Edward L. Weldin
Charged with 2 counts of Grand Larceny 4th (Class E Felony) and
1 count of Official Misconduct (Class A Misdemeanor)

36-year-old Roberta L. Weldin
Charged with 2 Counts of Petit Larceny (Class A Misdemeanor)

35-year-old Wesley M. Loomis
Charged with 1 count of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree (Class D Felony)
1 count of Official Misconduct (Class A Misdemeanor)

37-year-old Ronald T. Frawley
Charged with 1 count of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree (Class D Felony)
1 count of Official Misconduct (Class A Misdemeanor)

State Police say the Weldins allegedly charged about $1,800 worth of building materials and supplies at Northern Concrete to the Fire Department Account and utilized them on their own behalf.

Edward Weldin is also accused of exceeding his fuel allowance by approximately $2,200 over a three year period.

State Police allege that Loomis exceeded his fuel allowance by approximately $4,500 over a three year period.

Former treasurer on the Board of Directors for the fire department Ronald Frawley is accused of taking approximately $6,340 in cash over a two year period from the Fire Department's main bank account for his own personal use.

"I really hope they learn from it and I hope the rest of them think about it before anybody else gets involved in something like this,” said Town Supervisor Dennis Lockwood. "You can be great at your job but if you do something like this, it's wrong."

Each of the accused has been released on their own recognizance. They are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
