Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- One of our viewers contacted us about an email claiming they were eligible for money in a class action lawsuit against a big company and they want to know if it’s “The Real Deal.”
Well, it is. The suit is Fraley versus Facebook and it centers around the website’s “sponsored stories” – advertising that a business, organization or individual pays for, so there’s a better chance posts will be seen by a target audience.
The proposed settlement for the lawsuit is $20 million.
If your name, profile picture, photographs, likeness or identity were featured in one of Facebook’s “sponsored stories” without your consent, you could be eligible for a pay-out of up to $10. You can access the claim form at FraleyFacebookSettlement.com
The proposed settlement covers as many as 125 million users. If too many people submit claims, the settlement money may instead go to a charity.
