Get Health Connected Screening fair helps local residents
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- More than 10% of adults in Onondaga County have little or no health insurance and limited access to health care because they can't afford it.
Those Central New Yorkers were able to get life-saving tests for free at the Get Health Connected event in Syracuse.
People had their blood pressure, cholesterol and vision tested. They also had the chance to get screened for breast or prostate cancer.
Organizers say early detection is the key in preventing and treating potentially deadly diseases.
"This is an opportunity for you to come in a triage so if you have insurance you can figure out what's going and these screenings are expensive, so even having insurance doesn't mean its affordable for every family," said Monique Wright-Williams.
More than 300 people were screened and tested at this year's event.
