Grand larceny charges dismissed in case against brothers accused in lottery scam
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Grand larceny charges leveled against two brothers charged with scamming a Syracuse man out of a $5 million lottery ticket have been dismissed.
A judge says the grand larceny charge falls outside of the statute of limitations.
The brothers will, however, still be tried on conspiracy charges.
In November 2012, Andy and Nayel Ashkar were accused of scamming a Syracuse man out of the winning ticket in 2006.
The winner was told he had only $5,000; while the Ashkars held onto the ticket worth millions.
