Watertown (WSYR-TV) – The owner of a “head-shop” chain operating in Central New York and the North Country promised a judge on Thursday that his days of peddling synthetic drugs are over.

No action was taken against John Tebbetts III, whose stores were among those subjected to a region-wide raid in July. The Rome man still needs to find a lawyer to represent him in a lawsuit that has been launched by the New York State Attorney General’s office.

According to the AG’s office, Tebbs reformatted synthetic drug packaging and one store held a competition to rename the substances.

Tebbs head shops include locations in Syracuse, Oneida, Utica, Cicero, Watertown, and Herkimer.

Synthetic drugs have been linked to numerous bizarre and often violent incidents throughout Upstate New York and beyond.
