Heroic action by Deputy and Trooper saves woman’s life in Madison County
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Deputy and State Trooper are being credited with saving a woman’s life in Madison County.
The incident took place on June 13 around 7:30 p.m., when police responded to a woman that had threatened to jump off the gorge at the Chittenango Falls State Park in the Town of Cazenovia.
Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Burbidge and New York State Trooper Miles Robertson tried to talk the woman back from the edge of the cliff without success.
Burbidge then fastened himself to a fence, tying a rope around his waist and the other end to a post.
Authorities say as Burbidge approached the woman, she attempted to jump but was stopped by Burbidge when he grabbed and held her in his arms.
Trooper Robertson then pulled the two back from the edge toward the fence.
Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley said they usually do not report incidents like this, but felt inclined to because of the ‘heroic action’ taken by Burbidge and Robertson.
